Dear Dolly,
Just to let you see that I haven’t forgotten you. I have not got much time as we are leaving for France at midnight, and you know what that means. We have had our draft leave and I had a great time, it was only four days worst luck. I have got to fall in now, so good bye kid. Write soon, with best love from Max.

The tower brigde, 1918 (1st world war) 31/1/18

My dear Dolly,

Just a P.C (postcard) as not time for letter writing. Mr B and I are a present on 14 days leave. Ben got as far as London and went to hospital. Meant to see Bill, he has had a bad time of it, but is getting on alright now. He didn’t know me when I went in but could pick the others. Hope this finds you as it leaves me. Love from Max. Xxxx
